Trust the Science…? Interesting History of Doctors Who Defined Mental Disorders.

Most mental disorders cannot be diagnosed with a blood test, MRI, or other definitive biological test.

Instead, diagnoses rely largely on defined symptoms, patterns, behaviors and clinical criteria.

So let’s look at some of the people who created the terms and definitions that still influence how mental disorders are defined today.

Freud, Bleuler and Jung engaged with occultism, séances, mediumship, telepathy and other paranormal/esoteric phenomenal WHILE dismissing or rejecting “traditional” Christianity which is very similar to today’s scene ( it’s just art , it’s just performance , it’s just rumors, all those things are normal , just trust the science)

Eugen Bleuler who coined schizophrenia.He advocated serious scientific research WITH mediums and openly acknowledged believing that certain occult phenomena were real.

When the Swiss psychiatrist sought to rename what was previously known as dementia praecox, he combined two Greek roots: [1, 2]

Schizein: Meaning "to split" or "to separate".

Phrēn: Originally referring to the diaphragm, but historically translated in ancient Greece to mean the "soul, spirit, or mind" (as the diaphragm was once believed to be the seat of the soul

Carl Jung participated in séances and literally wrote his medical dissertation on “On the Psychology and Pathology of So-Called Occult Phenomena.” Jung spent decades studying old alchemical texts. He believed the transformation symbols used by alchemists matched the psychological process of finding the true self.

Sigmund Freud – A scholarly history from the British Psychological Society specifically examines “Sigmund Freud and the occult” and documents his interest in telepathy, clairvoyance, fortune tellers, dream interpretation and related phenomena. One of Freud's theory is the Oedipus complex, which claims that young children experience unconscious sexual desires for their opposite-sex parent and view the same-sex parent as a rival. Kind of relevant to today and the whole pedo thing we are seeing . He wrote this to his friend Carl Jung “ "My dear Jung, promise me never to abandon the sexual theory. That is the most essential thing of all. You see, we must make a dogma of it, an unshakable bulwark.” regarding his work and the scientific world .

Add psychiatry’s very real history of eugenics and forced sterilization of the mentally ill and there we have it .

These were the guys helping define delusion and abnormal thought and our current understanding
of psychology and “ science ”
