The fact that this sentencing is lighter than what prosecutors demanded indicates Korean judicial system is coming in strain as Korean judges crack under the looming threat of American retaliation. U.S. President Donald J. Trump received millions of dollars from Moonies and Vice President J.D. Vance has been leading campaign to denounce Moonie crackdown in Japan & Korea. The sanctions on Brazilian judges and U.S. aggression against ICC make officials more hesitant to go after U.S. linked criminal organizations. This kind of chilling effects may have judges to give relatively lighter sentencing to Moonies.
Or it maybe just crimes this woman committed in Korea relatively minor compared to utter atrocities she committed in Japan. She is charged with bribing a former First Lady in Korea while crimes in Japan is quite extensive from extortion on her followers to buying up the whole LDP Abe faction. She gaslighted Japanese followers about Japanese war crimes committed about WW2 to extract as much wealth from them to bribe the whole Abe faction and other right-wing figures in LDP.
