honestly, and maybe this is telling on myself, but ive said it before that while i always knew climate change is bad, it only really set in for me this year just how bad it is

I can remember when I was much younger, in gradeschool, learning about climate change. The teacher always prefaced the consequences of climate change with graphs showing global temperatures based on different initiatives, and that—if only we would tackle the problem—we could avoid the worst of it.
So it’s a little shocking, if not unsurprising, to see that the worst is probably going to happen and that we failed.

The earth was always going to pass the 1.5 degree warming threshold. That was already breached in 2023 or 2024. Since this year is a super El-Nino it will breach it next year.

I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but this isn’t just “lol sum penguins will die” this will impact everyone’s daily life.
I live in Texas and my homeowners insurance has skyrocketed
$2700 in 2022 vs $4100 today for the same house. “Why the big jump?”
Well this was my street 9 years ago.
I keep telling my fellow “non political” Texans that THESE are the concrete impacts of climate change. Crazy weather, but even when it isn’t crazy needing to pay extra just in case. If we committed to making climate change like the ozone hole, we’d all pay less (and not die)
Shit is already rough from climate change and it will get worse, but I do think we’ll solve this in my lifetime. We’ve made amazing strides in renewable energy and recently EVs, and that will be accelerated by what we’ve seen happen in Europe and the Middle East. There’s certainly going to be further breakthroughs in the technology that’ll only fuel these.
And I reckon way down the line we’ll have the means to rewind the clock on the climate through a lil UN-sanctioned climate engineering
