Not even basic maintenance was carried out on the ship as it was meant to have been sunk as a false flag to justify a land invasion of Iran. Many of it's support vessels were able to keep themselves comparatively "ship shape" yet USS Abraham Lincoln was left to deteriorate as it was only destined to be attacked and sunk. It was parked as a sitting duck awaiting either an easy attack by Iran or a false flag by Israel. The false flag operation was called off when many people realised this was a likely game plan and the overwhelming distrust in Israel since the launch of the campaign. Iran also knew it couldn't attack it for fear of the same outcome.

Although I want to buy this when the liberty happened litteraly every single surviving crew member said ” nah it was israel”. The surviving navy personell of the Lincoln would also be able to tell what military was actually fighting them
Brother maintenance doesn’t happen on a ship at sea because it has to be in fighting condition. If you want to perform maintenance you have to take components down that would be needed in case of an attack. Also they’re not gonna paint it while at sea due to risk of going over it’s just paint, some surface rust, and some algae no big deal.
