So I was internet surfing and for some reason or another the subject of the uncanny valley came up, I had heard of the idea and knew I little bit I actually went in depth here. I found that scientists believe we evolved this ability to be able to tell if what we're seeing is really a human. Do tell me, why do we need an evolutionary trait to tell that just because something looks human, doesn't mean it is, and if it were because of some other species of human like some believe, why would it invoke a disturbing feeling of something being wrong and that you need to leave as soon as possible.

Yes there were several other species of the Human genus that had an appearance close to ours but not quite the same. Neanderthals, Denisovans, and Floriensis are all well established as existing at the same time as early Homo Sapiens, and there is a good chance that there were more.
There’s no conspiracy here, this is a well known and established part of the scientific record.

We did live beside other humanoids for a long time until we wiped them all out. It’s possible the humans who trusted them got killed for being different and the ones that were afraid of them stayed away and survived.
We completed with other hominid groups for much of our history. Being able to quickly distinguish “in” and “out” groups within our own species was also important from a conflict perspective. The uncanny valley effect also helped us avoid sexual pairings where offspring would be less fit or viable.
Feel free to believe it was because of the imminent danger of skinwalkers or CHUDS wearing human skin masks if that makes your world more interesting though.
