As a Gary’s Economic convert, I think the billionaire discrepancy began with the removal of the ultra wealthy tax code. You can pretty clearly see its effects in the data.

It definitely happened but the exact escalation point is obscure. Much satanic shit could also be seem after 2012 and it just got more obscene after that , but born in the 90s it’s just how I perceived the world

There were just as many celebrities as there are today during the 60s and 70s and 80s. You don’t need internet for becoming famous. Just newspapers, radio, and TV is enough to spread the word. And certain celebrities from the old times are still more popular than many new celebrities today.
Maradona, Pele, Houdini, Michael Jackson, Sean Connery and many other old celebrities are still more popular compared to the likes of Taylor Swift, Mbappe, or even Brad Pitt.
This is due to the monoculture of the olden days. Where everybody was exposed to the same media. Now with internet, it is much more harder to appeal to everyone because most people are stuck in their confined chambers, in their isolated algorithms. When Maradona played in the world cup, the entire world watched. Now when Mbappe plays in the world cup, many people rather watch something else on YouTube or play video games.
If you ask the average person in the world who Taylor Swift is, many people outside of the US won’t have a damn clue, but if you asked those same people who Maradona is, the positive response rate will be much higher.
There was no such thing as algorithms in the olden days. It was truly monolithic. And the celebrity status of stars from that era still persist even to this day.
