I can’t stand people that reject horseshoe theory. It’s irrelevant that they don’t have identical economic beliefs. The important thing is that they’re both authoritarian

I am gonna dissent and say this was inevitable. The fact of the matter is Free-market parties in Germany, all two of them, the FDP and CDU haven’t been able to govern without the SPD who are constantly dragged by the Greens to the left.
Look at Bavaria, the antidote to the far-right isn’t getting in bed with leftists, that just causes drift to the extremes. And now the CDU is in a doom lop, as to much of the right wing vote is off the table due to the fire wall.
The firewall should have never been struck, the AFD is about ready to burst with small c conservatives and hardline interventionist barely tolerant of each other’s ideas.
