Trump’s United States and Putin’s Russia launched wars against lesser powers with the expected outcomes of quick regime changes. Although both have had their advantages in military and geopolitical power, Ukraine and Iran have been able to outlast regime change goals and thus have not been anywhere close to defeat. It would be in the best interests for both Trump and Putin to pursue diplomacy and make difficult concessions.
