In 49 BC, Julius Caesar, then governor of the Roman province of Gaul, led his legions across the Rubicon River, which marked the border with the Roman heartland. Since a provincial governor was banned from leading forces into such territory, this was a de facto declaration of war against Rome.
After winning the civil war, Caesar was made dictator for life to end the republic, paving the way for Rome’s transformation into an empire. As he crossed the Rubicon, he said, “The die is cast.”
Under a second Trump term, the US finds itself in the same spot. He abuses executive power, undermines judicial independence, tries to overturn election results, and attacks dissenting voices in the media, academia and civil society.
Even Congress — which should be democracy’s last line of defense — is apparently powerless. Lawmakers have been cowed into silence after seeing a candidate for speaker of the House withdraw and incumbent senators and representatives being eliminated in primaries — all because of a single social media post from Trump.

3. My opinion
The irony is that Hankyeroh has opinion pieces of endorsing Victor Orban, Le Pen, Nigel Farage and Donald Trump as “peace candidates” who will stand up to Biden’s warmongering in 2024.
