Trump’s Trade War with Canada Will Make America Backward Again

  1. I think the most infuriating part of having above a room-temperature IQ lately is understanding that Trump’s mental deficiencies, emotional outbursts, malignant narcissism, and unrepentant self-dealing and financial indulgences have consequences measured in decades that his most ardent supporters will likely never feel, and when they do, it will be long enough in the past for them to scrub direct attribution.

Alliances, trading blocs, association, and cultural affinities take decades to shift. They are glacial, but when they get moving there’s very little to stop them. By the time Canada has more deeply integrated with the EU, a third of Trump’s most devoted followers will already be dead. Those that remain will simply watch the world coalescing outside of American economic, political, and cultural reach and either say “haha yes this is what I voted for”, call you a re*ard who doesn’t understand what’s actually happening, and/or insist that it’s a Democrat’s fault.

This entire administration has felt like a plutonium suppository, and it’s going to take some time before we feel any of the internal decay beyond the immediate discomfort.
