Is he wearing a red string bracelet here? Couldn't find any info when I searched if that's something 'else' or if it's typical for him to wear something like this.

some red string bracelets (with 1 or 5 beads) are given at Buddhist temples. Idk if this is one of those or not, we can’t see the top of it.
but given how it goes from ‘skinny’ to ‘not skinny’, leads me to believe that it is **NOT** a Buddhist red string bracelet.

If I remember correctly it is a make a wish and keep it on your body until it comes true type of thing in middle eastern shamanic traditions. A friend made one for me, wish did not came true though.
