    That’s an understandable opinion.

I sure do hope it’s changed back during the next admin though. I’d rather see students go get a “useless degree” in something they’re interested then than do nothing productive at all.

I’m not a fan of the attack on intelectual-based majors. School for the purpose of vocational education is fine, but let’s not support one over the other.

Love you Matt, but whether we like it or not, that’s an easy way to lose the argument for some regardless of the correctness of the entire article.

issuing correction on a previous post of mine, regarding the terror group MAGA. you do not, under any circumstances, “gotta hand it to them”

I like his reasoning, and given that the for profit schools have won on the grounds of “all of our students commit tax fraud” I think that getting a rule about debt to earnings ratio is unlikely. This seems like a good way of eliminating predatory schools.

I get the arguments about attacking the humanities, but at a certain level, if your position is “take out loans so that you can make less money than just going straight to work out of high school” then I really doubt that you are anything other than predatory.

The only real concern is that if certain fields can’t get accurate earnings numbers (which could be indicated by these school’s previous legal arguments), then they could be targeted unreasonably.

Is there going to be a yearly evaluation of what majors are considered useful? How long will we allow our children to ruin their lives by taking on loans to learn to code?

  6. I don’t hate Matt Yglesias for being an obnoxious contrarian.

I don’t even hate him for getting paid for it.

I hate him because he’s bald.

Instead of subsidizing degrees with low earning potential, the government should subsidize some Finasteride for him.

  7. Universities aren’t just job training centers, they’re meant to provide institutions of study for all different aspects, giving us a population filled with well rounded, educated people. Historians don’t make a lot of money, but we need historians for instance. Yeah, schools charge to much for these things, leaving people in unsustainable debt. But I feel like this is attacking from the wrong angle. Like, this is going to make us a dumber, know-nothing country.

  8. Fine in concept, but as with everything this administration has done, the execution is a fucking dumpster fire of incompetence and chaos.
