  1. 1. Summary

The people of Okinawa has demanded that Japan’s central government do more to ensure effective discipline among United States service members on the southern island following the arrest of a US Marine on accusations that he robbed and murdered a local woman.

    2. How is this related

    (1) American exceptionalism: The discipline and crimes of U.S. troops in East Asia has been a problem for a while. The infamous “Highway 56 Accident“ in 2002 is a similar incident which saw Korean anti-American sentiment reach its highest until 2026.

I wonder what’s perspective of people who served in Japan on this. Is there anything persistent in organization or culture that consistently enables this. I looked at news report and one Japanese official demanded US troops to fully implement “human rights education”.
