If Reddit’s forum statistics are anything to go by, then the behaviour I’ve witnessed over the last seven or more years makes no real sense.
The apparent activity and hubbub is false, and there are very, very few real humans here.
If I am wrong about that, and there are many humans, then I am afraid that they’ve lost their humanity.
Curiosity levels have dropped precipitously, and nobody actually navigates this site anymore.
For years now, I’ve seen threads here and everywhere else get 50 comments and hundreds of upvotes within half an hour of being created, but as far as I can see, anything I post, here or in my own forums, gets entirely ignored. Threads I create might get 50 views a day if I’m lucky, but the first comment in that thread has ‘1 view’ (ie. probably mine), which means people look at a picture and leave, which is perhaps to be expected, since people are easily bored, but still, it makes no sense in terms of the apparent population of this site. This might sound like I am complaining, or an attention-seeker, but I am way past that. I’ve been yelling into the void since 2019, and certainly since 2020, because it has intangible benefits that I won’t describe here, but I am still saddened by the complete lack of community. I see mostly mindless prattle, jokes and silliness, and countless probably-pysop distractions.
Nobody really seems to want to learn and to know.
Obviously there are lots of bots, obviously we are in the age of AI, but still.
Dead silence (for all the apparent noise).

I use ‘old’ reddit 99 percent of the time, but occasionally check new ‘www’ reddit just to see how it’s working, and I’ve noticed in the last few months that my forums (and some others) seem to get stuck on loading. The banner of the site comes up, perhaps a low-res version of the thread image, but no comments, no navigation, and it just sits there saying ‘transferring data from ‘alb.reddit . com’, which I presume is the loadbalancer functionality – but I suspect it is a way of dissuading people from visiting certain forums. Try load a page, it hangs, and go somewhere else.
Aside from that, it does not matter how controversial a comment or thread I make, nobody seems to follow up on my profile – it makes me wonder if I am totally invisible. Is this a technicality, or have humanity just lost all interest in anything vaguely challenging?
I predict this thread will get more upvotes than any I’ve made before, because it has a simple cartoon thread image.

The thread image says it all.
Reddit is empty.
