How does R/Neoliberal view the academic discourse on neoliberalism?

I'm in a pretty progressive university in England, and whenever I am researching topics for essays I am struck by how much academia blames neoliberalism for several significant problems in the world. Whilst, to me, as a neoliberal (a r/Neoliberal neoliberal, not a Thatcher/Reagan one), a lot of the discourse within these academic papers is simply the typical populist argument that 'neoliberalism is bad because its for the rich', it tends to be dressed up in a lot of fancy rhetoric and vocabulary. I'd be hard pressed to find a professor in my department who doesn't think that neoliberalism is a neo-imperialist system which imposes austerity on the poor and enforces workfarist policies on them to enrich 'core nations' through the exploitation of 'periphery nations'. If you do a simple search of 'neoliberalism' in google scholar you'll find a endless list of articles blaming neoliberalism for: the Iraq War; a rise in authoritarianism; settler-colonialism in the occupied territories; the enforcement of American imperialism on the global south; the collapse of the Brazillian economy; the neglect of the AIDS crisis; structural racism within news media; the creation of a militaristic survalliance state post-9/11; and the UK's mental health crisis, to name a few.

To me, this all seems pretty ridiculous. However, when I talk to lecturers about it, they say 'well, that is the social sceince academic consensus on the issue. We've analysied and concluded this through intense research and analysis of neoliberalism'. Do you think that their critiques are justified? Do you think all of this is a misunderstanding neoliberalism, a simplistic exaggeration of neoliberalism's impact, or do you think they've got a point?

I'd genuinely love to hear a different prespective, because the groupthink within academia can sometimes be nightmarish and a bit mind-numbing.
