someone brought this up in a comment thread yesterday and i haven't been able to stop thinking about it. why is jeff bezos spending 42 million dollars hollowing out 500 feet of solid rock inside a mountain in west texas just to build a mechanical clock that measures time in centuries?

if it was just bezos doing it, you could write it off as a weird billionaire vanity project

but then you look at mark zuckerberg buying up 1,400 acres in hawaii, putting up a six foot wall, making local carpenters and electricians sign strict NDAs, and digging a 5,000 square foot underground shelter with blast resistant doors and its own food and water supply and coincidently at the exact same time, half of silicon valley and wall street have been quietly buying up remote land, private aquifers, and underground shelters in new zealand.

when i was looking into why they are all going underground inside the exact same five year window, i came across an article breaking down what their construction permits and cash reserves actually point to. the wild part is the second half of the writeup, where the article connects this bunker surge to how controlled demolitions of the economy are used every few generations to wipe out the middle class and scoop up physical property while regular people are kept exhausted and distracted by the news

i don't know if everything in the piece is 100% spot on, but the way it lines up with what is happening to housing and groceries right now makes way too much sense. here is the link to the article if anyone wants to read the rest of it

Civilizations built pyramids, he did a clock. I think more things should be done like this.
