I feel like not enough media outlets have covered how absolutely massive a fuckup losing Bahrain is. Like, US Middle East foreign policy going back almost 40 years has hinged on our presence and access to Bahrain, and in a matter of weeks the IRGC ensured we won’t have a presence there any time soon if ever at all. Aside from all the other fuckups that led to this war, losing Bahrain is one a the greatest military failures in American history, and next time Hegseth goes in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee, every former military person on that committee should be hammering home the fact that Hegseth’s shit stain of a legacy on the US military will forever be losing one of the most critical military bases in the world to a third rate military. Hegseth name should forever be associated with colossal military failure in the same way Benedict Arnold is associated with traitors
This war has been an utter disaster. It’s gotten a few thousand Iranian and Lebanese civillians killed. It’s gotten over 20 American soldiers killed. It’s strengthened the Iranian regime politically. It’s caused tremendous economic suffering around the globe.
Bahrain was always known to be in range of Iranian weapons and it has been known for YEARS that Iran could achieve local overmatch over defense systems and ravage bases it focused on.
Yet families were somehow not long gone…
