>Lucknow: Amethi police on Wednesday booked 51 individuals, mostly from Shia community, for obstructing traffic by organising a candlelight march in the Jais area to protest the recent killing of Hezbollah commander Hassan Nasrallah by Israel army.
>Additional superintendent of police (ASP), Amethi, Harendra Pratap, told TOI that the group had not obtained official permission for the protest and was obstructing traffic in the Saudana area, under the jurisdiction of Jais police station.
>The event’s organiser, Zeeshan, has been taken into custody, and an investigation is ongoing.
>”Based on video evidence, we are identifying participants, and appropriate action will be taken against those involved,” the ASP said.
>The late Tuesday evening march saw participation from both men and women of the Shia community. The protesters carried placards with slogans and images of the Hezbollah commander, chanting in support of the group.
>The FIR was lodged by police out-post incharge of Saudana area, Pradeep Mishra.
>The FIR said, “Around 8 pm, we received information that 40 to 50 individuals were moving near Jama Masjid carrying a photo of Hassan Nasrallah and shouting ‘long live Nasrallah’.”
>”When questioned, they did not provide any information and continued to move forward. This act was causing significant inconvenience to the passing travellers and obstruction to traffic movement,” said Mishra.
>An FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 189 (2) (unlawful assembly) and BNS 223 (A) (disobedience to public servant) has been registered against 11 named and 40 unidentified individuals.
