If Assad gets on a plane, it could fall today.

I’m usually very skeptical about Islamist rebels taking down dictatorships. Fuck Assad but also these rebels explicitly have called for Islamic law. I guess it depends on how far they plan to take their “Islamic Law”. In the areas they do control, they haven’t gone full Sharia Law and there are positive signs for the Christians. There aren’t mass reprisals and this Jolani guy is talking about building up inclusive institutions. I’m skeptical but hopeful. I just hope the Kurds are able to grab as much land as possible. They need to connect their lines to the Al Tanf Zone where the US base is. That way they’ll cut off Iranian proxies coming from Iraq into Syria and they’ll an indirect connection to Israel.

They’ve already fallen. Government officials and likely Assad have already left the country.
The southern group of rebels is about 10 miles out from the center of damascus. Northern group is 20 mi out. Assad’s troops throughout Damascus are abandoning their positions and defensive positions. Rebels are facing almost no resistance as they move into the city.
It’s done. We’re going to start seeing videos of Syrian rebels celebrating in Damascus within the next couple hours
