A very good analysis. Another advantage that democracies have is that they have better safety valves to handle discontent towards the incumbent leadership. When you know you can get the current guys out without resorting to violence and only a year or two from now, you can just wait and protest by voting. Shutting down all expresions of discontent without adressing the root causes only ensures that anger will build up.
