Perpetual support with minimum escalation was a policy doomed to fail since the very beginning. The west is on the clock to clear the path for Ukraine to win the war by any means necessary, or else Russia will win the war, and pro-Russian/multipolar political actors will win the argument and consequently start winning elections as well. There is no political message which resonates more strongly than “I told you so”.
You simply can not justify this level of financial and opportunity cost investment into a war you are not actually planning to win. Either plan to win, or we all lose.
