    Don’t know why anyone should apologize to him, but he did take the flak for things every President before him had been doing which I agree on.

    What. Okay sure it was more violent, but the fringe was more violent and had more opportunity. But the public was United against Nixon. The two parties were still Big tent parties with basically the same ideology. Republicans had wackos like Reagan who talked about how social security will lead to command economy socialism and the Democrats had racists like George Wallace, who wasn’t a mere regional candidate but a serious contender for President in ‘72 and ‘76. They were polarized but I don’t think they’re polarized by modern standards. Things were possible back then that just aren’t today.
