PICTURED: This sub, in the last 72 hours, when it is learned that a lot of American voters don’t ACTUALLY have any moral opposition or objections to blatant lebensraum-styled 19th-century flavoured map-painting imperialism.

I know that the sub has had a whole lot of its assumptions kicked in over the last 3 months – the median voter isn’t a self-interested, rational being and might be even conspiracist and certainly anti-intellectual.

That a lot of voters don’t really care about norms and institutions and values of democracy so long as they could own and dunk on their perceived strawmen enemies.

That the narratives of politics is not about policy and values for the direction of countries, but really about aesthetics and narratives about their circumstances and their community, whether said aesthetic and community homogenous, dynamic, thriving, stagnating or spiralling.

That even the supposed sanest parties are switching to protectionist populism.

But this… This is a new one.

It’s not even irredentism when they’ve never claimed Canada, and it’s not even anschluss since there’s no widespread support for integration either.

Just straight-up might makes right because self-determination and local agency is inferior to superiority and those Canadians and Danes are presumably weaklings, and we want to paint more of the map our colour.
