I should follow this more. Any chance at all that we will leave NATO? Like, is that an actual possibility other than leftist freaking out over it?

I’d really hope the US can leave NATO. It just serves no purpose anymore.
I could see it’s point in the 1950s. Back then Europe was just trashed and there was a legit concern about Soviet tanks rolling across Western Europe. Now that might have been some PTSD from the Nazi blitzkrieg, but WWII was pretty traumatic and I’ll forgive some PTSD.
Plus, you had the communists making moves all around the world. Not just eastern Europe, but latin American, Africa and SE Asia too. India was flirting pretty heavy with the Soviets and so was Israel. If you looked at the map, you wouldn’t be paranoid to think, “Sheesh…..maybe this western democracy and capitalism isn’t going to prevail.”
But in 2025…..NATO is just dumb. I mean, we invoked it after 9/11 and mostly just got excuses from the other NATO members about why they didn’t think they should have to help out. The UK did……but the rest didn’t help much. So, what is the point? Is it only for the US to leap to the defense of them?
Plus, Russia is not a real threat. They can’t overrun western Europe…….they’re having a very hard time just dealing with Ukraine (which has histoically been a vassal state of Moscow anyway). Could Russia invade Poland? Probably not. And if they did, I think Germany and France can deal with it.
The main purpose of NATO now is to drag us into shit and to sell F16s.
