President Donald Trump lobbed his first volley at the Federal Reserve, saying Thursday that he will apply pressure to bring down interest rates.

Speaking to an assembly of global leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the new president in a wide-ranging policy speech did not mention the Fed by name but made clear he would seek lower rates.

“I’ll demand that interest rates drop immediately,” Trump said. “And likewise, they should be dropping all over the world. Interest rates should follow us all over.”

  1. Steady, measured lowering of interest rates based on economic conditions? No way, we’re going to 0%! Hope everyone is ready for inflation round 2😎😎😎

  2. Between this and media becoming under the states thumb we really are just speedrunning turkey

The fact his base is dumb enough to believe this is truly something else. These people need to be studied

Edit: To add to my comment, I think its really something else how well these republican leaders are able to lie to their base, and the base to just accept it as fact and move on. I can understand disagreeing on ideals/opinions, but they reject the very reality of the world we are in

  4. The rest of Trump’s cronies have to be begging him to just let the economy ride and shut up for a little and let the GOP take advantage of a good senate map but he really can’t help himself.

Its been many years since Americans have truly experienced the kind of high level inflation that they had in the past. Tantrum after tantrum.

He cannot fire J Pow nor can he fire anyone from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors so I have the faintest of hope he has no power or influence here. The Federal Reseve independence from political influence is a beautiful thing.
