A conclusion that always seemed reasonably possible but was strangely ridiculed and suppressed. To be generous, some of the weirder fixtures of covid time—lab leak theory is laughable, six feet apart to stop the spread but public health authorities give the green light for BLM marches—are probably best understood as attempts to manage various anxieties during a scary and uncertain time. But the credibility hit these institutions are suffering as a result….. man

Much like the earlier House report on the Covid pandemic & the relating federal government actions, I would just prefer people on the street would allow the [research from the experts working on this field](https://youtu.be/3JdzZGhQAPE?si=pyOMX4zGx6crG3VC) to carry a tad more weight than public agencies that have laxer standards for evidence (as any organization that needs to create plans for just about any contingency).
Trying to read up on this, but I don’t seem to find this change in the low-probability being shifted a tad to the lab leak side being considered through some new path-breaking piece of research.

I won’t dismiss a lab leak in of itself but the in the article, it states that the CIA came to this conclusion with low confidence, given existing evidence.
I think many initially denied the possibility of a lab leak because its earliest proponents proclaimed that it was a bioweapon purposefully leaked by China without any evidence. An accidental leak seems much more plausible.
Either way, we won’t really know for a while what exactly happened given China’s tight control on information leaving the country.
