President Trump said that Venezuela has agreed to accept the country’s migrants living in the U.S. back as he lauded the return of six American hostages who were held in the Latin American country.
Six hostages who were held in Venezuela were freed on Friday after the president’s envoy for special missions Richard Grenell visited the South American country. Grenell met with Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, whose recent election victory the U.S. government has deemed “illegitimate.”
Trump’s special envoy for Latin America, Mauricio Claver-Carone, told reporters on a call ahead of Grenell’s meeting with Maduro that the ex-acting director of national intelligence is demanding that Venezuela comply with the U.S. demands or face consequences.
Similarly to Venezuela, Colombia has agreed to take back its nationals living in the U.S. after a brief stand-off between the Latin American country’s President Gustavo Petro and the Trump administration.
Both sides threatened to impose tariffs last weekend but eventually reached a deal with Petro now urging Colombians to return home and offering to provide credits for them along the way.

I’m unhappy to admit this is good politics by Trump. To an extent, the refusal to have any contact with Maduro on the basis of it legitimizing his fraudulent election was silly — the man is the leader of Venezuela, like it or not, and not speaking to him does nothing to change that.
Edit: Try to really think about this from the perspective of the average American. The average American, rightly or wrongly, sees illegal immigration as a problem that needs solving. Do you think the average American would prefer to see more illegal immigration from Venezuela on the basis of the US being unwilling to recognize Maduro as legitimate or less illegal immigration from Venezuela at the cost of having a special envoy travel to the country?
Are we ever going to address that Colombia never refused to accept its own nationals? That Trump got in a fight, lost, everything got back to how it always was.
Or are we going to keep spreading WH blatant propaganda over and over again?

Um isn’t this just handing over people that disliked Maduro back into the jaws of the regime, many who publicly voiced disliking said regime that is perfectly willing to silence dissidents.
Are these hostages the oil executives or the operation Gideon dumbasses?
