Tldr: Newsom teased the idea of a new housing department that could exclusively be focused on cutting red tape and getting things built. That current function is divided into multiple agencies.
If California can fix its housing crisis and make it easier to build, other places will assuredly follow.

I’ve given up on California fixing its housing crisis. They might do tweaks here and there (thank you Scott Weiner) but they aren’t gonna solve the main issue, which is regulatory. The zoning stuff was nice but that’s not nearly enough. I’ve given up on California & Newsom solving this.
