I appreciate them putting this campaign of demonization to glean votes from small-minded bigots into historical context. The Republican Party has a sordid history of this. It’s infuriating the way that so many refuse to contextualize the broadsides against the trans community as the latest in a long line of baseless, electorally motivated aggressions against defenseless communities.

Science and scientists are on our side – preventing researchers from being able to study trans issues means it’s easier for conservatives to appeal to “common sense” problems (which are often not actually problems) and “common sense” solutions (which are often unproductive or counterproductive)
