In Florida, you can be charged with a hit and run if you hit a tree and don’t report it. You can face up to 6 months of jail, a fine, and 2 points on your license.

    It’s a fucking tree. Hit and run is one thing if another driver was involved, but it’s a tree..

    Whose tree is it? Sounds like the government is protecting private property rights, as is it’s proper function.I think it turns into a criminal, instead of civil, matter when you flee the scene or don’t report it after a certain period of time, or are you proposing you have a right to damage others’ property?

    There are many examples of government overreach, but I don’t think this is a good one.

  3. I believe it’s called leaving the scene of an accident, and would apply to a tree, building,  a street sign, mailbox, or another vehicle, even a parked one.
