In 1914, Moltke the Younger asked, despite the mood of victory at German headquarters, “Where are the prisoners?” Inspired by recent videos of Russian captives, I wrote short post on interpreting development in the Kursk offensive, looking at the why capturing troops is an important sign and the need for decisive victories in maneuver warfare.
I also go into what a “decisive victory” is exactly in contrast to the “ordinary victories” that are bad news for maneuver.
