They are going to break their ankles pivoting back and forth between “tariffs are good actually and we need them to make America strong” to “actually tariffs are just a negotiating tactic and we are winning… something… with them”. People on the conservative subs celebrating Trump’s declaration that we will increase tariffs if Canada retaliates and now he’s backing off in response to retaliation. Oof.

Nobody in the Trump administration has any clue what they’re doing. It’s all just made up on a whim. Trump is considering an off-ramp for the tariffs until he’s not and there’s no escape from his economic retribution. Canada needs to fix our border until we don’t and this is all actually about the trade surplus.

Damage has already been done. Trump already ruined the Canadian market for a lot of US goods. The Canucks are pissed. If I was Canada, I’d travel the world looking for new markets for my products and stop buying American. Stop shopping at Home Depot and other American retailers. Threaten just a few hundred million and the upper class will bring trump to heel.

He’ll probably say that tarrifs are off for Canada if they complete the Keystone, XL then he’ll want to triple tariffs on Canadian oil because it’s outrageous that we import their oil, then he’ll have a rally next to his big beautiful empty pipeline and talk about some random Canadian golfer’s not so big wang.
