They don’t have the power to stop the GOP, as per the wishes of the American people.

    > And this takes us to the crux of the matter: the Democrats urgently need to present a positive vision of their values and ideas. Rather than a constant stream of tedious Trump-bashing, they must say what it is that they would do differently — particularly when they are up against a man who knows how to communicate his message so powerfully.

This is such horseshit tbh. “Who knows how to communicate his message so powerfully?” Here are some Trump quotes from just one rally ([Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin in September 2024](https://newrepublic.com/series/51/mainstream-media-sanewashing-trump-migrants)):

    > These people [migrants] are animals.

    > I will liberate Wisconsin from this mass migrant invasion of murderers, rapists, hoodlums, drug dealers, thugs, and vicious gang members. We’re going to liberate our country.

    > You gotta get these people back where they came from. You have no choice. You’re gonna lose your culture.

    > They will walk into your kitchen, they’ll cut your throat.

Call it like it is. He’s a fearmongering fabulist. He lies constantly and he appeals to the darkest element of human nature, and his movement is full of people like him. That’s why MAGA have an advantage, not Donald Trump’s supernatural communication ability.

And it completely misunderstands why he won. He didn’t win because he better articulated a pro-growth policy agenda. He won because he tapped into [group status threat](https://www.pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1073/pnas.1718155115?doi=10.1073%2Fpnas.1718155115). There is no amount of “presenting a positive vision of their values and ideas” that would have changed the outcome because that wasn’t what people were drawn to. People knew perfectly well what Democrats stood for and they hated it.

Finally it badly mischaracterizes the 2024 Democratic campaign. Harris didn’t engage in a “constant stream of tedious Trump-bashing.” She had a clear, affirmative vision of the country and if the author had attended any of her rallies, that’s what she would’ve heard Harris promote. America just didn’t want that because Trump’s fearmongering about a more egalitarian society made people panic about minority groups closing status gaps.
