Zandi and Parrot summarized their views here:

The two economists have coordinated their views in the past – for instance below paper in March 2021.

Mark Zandi is the chief economist of Moody's – and is well respected. Parrot was a senior advisor to Obama's National Counsel of Economic Advisors.

Clearly the supply side incentives are positive – especially if they are targeted towards housing below the median housing price (this seems like something you would want to be more targeted – honestly at a county level or something similar – but that seems difficult to enforce).

The demand side subsidies will obviously be more controversial – but at least if they are somewhat targeted (First time home buyers) – it may not have the expected effect (price increase offsetting the incentive).

Largely I would just note that the policies are more well founded than the headline suggests – makes me wonder whether Zandi might have a White house role if/when Harris is elected.

  1. I’m largely okay with this, the policy targets first time home buyers and at the same time it increases supply.
