I’m not sure of what Canandian politics are like, but it seems cynically calling a snap election to shore up your majority because you look good in the polls haven’t gone well as of late (Macron in France and Sunak in the UK).
Maybe it’ll be different this time, but I’m not especially optimistic.

A tax cut during an economic crisis (which will very likely lead to a recession) seems like a bad idea. It’s even worse when you remember that Carney was talking about the need to rein in the deficit.
This seems like pure vote-buying.
