Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is leading a delegation from the state on a week-long trade mission to the United Kingdom and Ireland, her office announced Sunday.
Whitmer will meet with business leaders, government officials and industry stakeholders to promote Michigan, the governor's office said in a written statement. She'll be joined on the trip by Quentin Messer, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., Tim Boring, director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture, and Scott Bowen, director of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
The venture marks the Democratic governor's third international trade mission in four months. Whitmer traveled to Spain for a three-day investment mission in late November. Then, in February, Whitmer went to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Her trip to the United Kingdom and Ireland began on Sunday, according to the governor's office.
Michigan’s delegation will visit companies with a presence in the state, including Glen Dimplex Thermal Solutions, Perrigo and Glanbia, and host roundtables with business organizations including the Midlands Aerospace Alliance, Enterprise Ireland and the American Chamber of Commerce, the governor's office said.
The United Kingdom is one of Michigan’s top foreign direct investment sources with British companies supporting thousands of jobs across the state, according to the governor's office.
The governor's office also said the mission would serve "as an opportunity for Michigan’s leadership to engage with newly elected government officials in both the UK and Ireland."
