No idea why I can’t comment in the DT, but really that’s a blessing in disguise. Sorry if this is ping spamming but I figure this is important.

Edit: it looks like the site is falling apart.

The TVA debate is **the** debate for Quebec. I hope they’re super confident in their numbers there to have risked this. Blanche is going to eat this up.

I get his French sucks but if he didn’t want to participate, I see no reason for the debate to be canceled. It should’ve just gone on without him but with the other candidates.

  4. Can’t wait for my MP – who never shows up to local debates – to criticize Carney for this

  5. The TVA debate is huge in Quebec. This is a colossal misstep and there’s a very high chance this costs Carney the election.

Absolute disaster. Of course, the obvious conclusion is that they think the whipping he would have taken from all sides + his 8th grader French would be even worse for his numbers.

  6. Why did TVA charge 75,000 for parties to participate? That’s quite unusual. And a really bad precedent.

Also, there is already an official french debate scheduled.

Can someone Remind me why Quebec should have its own leadership debate versus the Atlantic, the West….? There already is a french debate scheduled.

Having to be fluent in two languages certainly locks a lot of good candidates out of the chance of being Prime Minister.
