I genuinely don’t get how business leaders and people across the political spectrum convinced themselves he wasn’t going to follow through on this insane plan. He was always serious about this, he kept cranks like Peter Navarro around for a reason. He didn’t give a shit if it cost him seats or that the [market](https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/31/trumps-trade-wars-have-cost-the-stock-market-5-trillion-and-counting-deutsche-bank.html) took a beating in Trump I, the only take away from that first trade wars was he didn’t tariff *enough*.
