I’ve seen Harris’ housing proposals take a lot of fire here, so I thought I would post this contrarian take. We can bemoan the stupidity of our housing system all we like, but since we can’t nuke the suburbs, we’re going to have to find some way to coexist.

The article is right about some things. For example…
Have government increase the supply of housing, through deregulation, construction incentives for cities and private companies, and government housing construction
Except the policy proposal does relatively little to deregulate. SFH zoning reform ? Density? Nothing
This article over indexes on fears of declining home values. We have such a massive housing deficit that it would take a decade of concerted action to get price increases under control.
Harris needs to go further to meet the needs of ordinary Americans. This is a crisis not an opportunity for policy. Treat it like a crisis. Put someone extraordinary in charge of HUD and announce them right now.
