Montana is Democrats' toughest Senate seat to keep blue in 2024, Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) said Tuesday during an Axios House event on the sidelines of the Democratic National Convention.
Whether Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) successfully defends his seat in a state that former President Trump twice won by double digits could be pivotal in Democrats' bid to retain their majority.
Peters, who runs Senate Democrats' campaign arm, told Axios' Hans Nichols that Montana is "clearly" the toughest race in November.
He also pointed to Ohio — where Sen. Sherrod Brown is seeking re-election — as another one of the party's most difficult seats to defend.

It’s pretty obvious to everyone that Senate Races in Ohio and Montana will be the hardest for Democrats there is a reason why Brown and Tester aren’t at the DNC this year.
Big Gary knows what’s up. Hopefully he won’t be dumping millions into Florida, Texas (blue Texas is not going to happen anytime soon), or fucking *Missouri*. We don’t need a repeat of 2020 where Dems burned $200 million in South Carolina and Kentucky rather than dumping that into more winnable races of North Carolina and Maine
Especially since the Dems have a real shot at a Manchin/Sinemaless trifecta this year if they just hold all current seats minus WV and flip AZ to Gallego. With that bare 50-50 pseudo majority, they’d be able to do abortion rights, voting rights, and a nice big meaty ~$3t reconciliation social spending bill (somehow Build Back Brandon returned). Which would be massive change all by itself, without needing to aim higher
Tester’s great and I just don’t see how he’ll get reelected.
