A supporter of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who attempted to storm the Chinese Embassy and a police station while dressed as the movie character “Captain America,” has been sentenced to prison in a first trial.

On the morning of the 28th, Judge Koo Chang-gyu of the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 12 sentenced Ahn Byung-hee (42) to one year and six months in prison for charges including attempted unlawful entry into a building, damage to public property, defamation, and forgery of private documents.

Judge Koo stated, “The defendant committed these acts with the intent of drawing public attention to achieve his personal and political objectives, and his actions significantly obstructed police officers in the execution of their duties.” He added, “The defendant demonstrated an extreme disregard for law enforcement and their duties, and therefore, strict punishment is unavoidable for the sake of maintaining public order.”

Ahn, who has frequently appeared at pro-Yoon protests dressed as Captain America, was arrested by police on February 14 after attempting to storm the Chinese Embassy. On February 20, he was formally indicted and detained after breaking the glass door of Namdaemun Police Station in an effort to demand a faster investigation into his case, and verbally abusing police officers.

During the trial, Ahn stated, “I acknowledge all the crimes I committed and sincerely apologize to everyone who was harmed as a result.” While the court acknowledged favorable circumstances—such as Ahn admitting to his crimes, depositing 1 million KRW in compensation for the victim of defamation, and paying for the repair of the damaged door, Judge Koo concluded that a prison sentence was unavoidable and delivered a custodial sentence.

Ahn is one of over 100 far-right rioters who were indicted for rioting over Yoon’s removal and removal. These rioters believed in “CCP election fraud” conspiracy theory which was spread by an American real estate mogul. This far-right movement notorious for using well-known American symbols like US flags, red MAGA hats, Trump election signs and “stop the steal” slogan as the symbol of their movement. For 2025 presidential election, they call for “total boycott” claiming it is “rigged”. They are focusing on violent attacks on political process. They are ramming vehicles into campaign rallies, destroying election posters and punching campaigners.
