  1. > According to Katherine C. Grier, who published Pets in America: A History in 2006, canaries were “the pet” to have during the 19th century. Grier explains that before radio came along, caged birds provided ambient sound in households. People could also carry the cages between rooms “almost like a transistor radio”.

It’s very tragic how sort by anything other than best only works until more comments are loaded, it makes it incredibly annoying to read the dt.

  3. I’m in LA and it’s incredibly weird that every afternoon a massive barrage of missiles is shot between Iran and Israel. I see what the damage is, then go to bed. Wake up and another barrage is shot.

  4. >Defense Minister Israel Katz on Monday condemned Iran’s overnight ballistic missile attacks on Israel, threatening Tehran residents with retaliatory actions in a post to X/Twitter on Sunday morning. “The residents of Tehran will pay the price, and soon,” Katz said.

    This sounds incredibly bad

So I went down a rabbit hole on the status of Ali Shamkhani, the Ayatollah’s top advisor who was considered assassinated, was still alive and well. Over the last few days there have been a lot of conflicting reports on whether he’s alive or not and I decided to compile together a timeline on claims.

    June 13th:

    – [State media says he is alive but later says he is in critical condition](https://xcancel.com/michaelh992/status/1933354849716088951)

    – [Opposition media Iran international reports that Shamkhani was killed in the initial strikes](https://www.iranintl.com/en/202506136136)

    – [NYT reports that he has died of wounds, citing Iranian officials](https://xcancel.com/farnazfassihi/status/1933381278457573534)

    June 14th:

    – [The IDF releases a graphic showing that he’s alive](https://www.idf.il/en/mini-sites/idf-press-releases-israel-at-war/june-25-pr/idf-eliminates-over-20-commanders-in-the-iranian-regime-s-security-apparatus/)

    – [A few hours later state media says he has died of wounds once again](https://www.timesofisrael.com/top-khamenei-adviser-among-senior-iranian-officials-killed-in-israeli-strikes/)

    June 15th:

    – [IDF updates graphic, he is still alive](https://www.idf.il/298688)

    – [Shamkhani’s face starts showing up in martyr banners](https://xcancel.com/hadimehrane1/status/1933922220721447207)

    June 16th:

    – [State media reports that he is alive and well, in stable condition](https://nournews.ir/fa/news/228697/) (idk if link works but it’s in Nour News Persian)

Conclusion: It seems like Iran intentionally covered up his survival for a couple days and now he is indeed alive. The IDF never officially claimed to have eliminated him.
