To be fair to JJ, he’s half right here; Conservatives did vote as a unified bloc. They just all voted in favor of Carney’s bill.

I mean, he’s largely correct. In most cases he would be correct. The case where the Conservative Party helps the Liberals is uncommon compared to how Americans would understand it. There’s really no independent for MPs here.

He’s completely right about the whip. There are very few “free votes” or tolerable dissent and the party can basically negate your standing as the incumbent for the next election
