“The key test of principle—the only test, really—is whether you are willing to call out your allies’ hatred. Mamdani’s refusal on this crucial point is a signal that he will downplay anti-Semitism when it springs from the pro-Palestine movement.”

Well he cant lose the coveted extremely online vote, you just cant win without that!
As long as he not swearing loyalty for Israel and not overtly being anti-semetism, this is nothing.
This test will never be worn on the other foot so you can call it canny politics but you cant call it real principle
Same reason he hangs out with Hasan Piker?
This refusal is what confirmed my non-voting for him.
This slogan is on par with 1488 and other massively accepted dog whistles that call for violence. It’s disgusting to see it minimized in any context let alone by an elected official who could well be the mayor of the country’s most Jewish city.
What does “socialist candidate” for mayorship actually mean. What is the socialist agenda for local administration?
I suspect the answer to this is a bunch of policies that are unpopular, a bad idea, a badly timed idea, and things that the socialist candidate doesn’t want to drolaw much attention to.
On national or geopolitical issues… there’s more fun to be had. This is not good news for local politics.
One of the worst socialist tendencies/MOs is the tendencies to always push agendas upwards. Local policies that need to be national. Turning local administration isolation into national or international politics activism.
European local politics are *plagued* by this.
Fwiw… I think it’s worth considering g attempts to plant liberal flags in Republican primaries… in democratic locales.
one of the defining features of internet leftism is impotently trying to sanewash toxic slogans
Zohran Mamdani was endorsed, and in turned endorsed, Lander. There are Jewish organizations in NY that have also endorsed him. The entire question is just rage bait by people who think support for Gaza and anti-semitism are the same thing.
Who cares?
