Are we all just going to ignore the fact that many medieval manuscripts depicted humans fighting human-sized snails?

These usually appear on the margins of manuscripts as “doodles” there was a “marginalia tradition” to do this with rabbits jousting and such. Lots of possible explanations but most like Satire of Knights and nobility anti-noble imagery depicting them with false bravery etc far less heroic than their claims a snail is an absurd foe. Also Snails represented the Lombard’s who were a Germanic people often maligned in medieval chronicles so it could be that or literally a mix of both. There is some other meanings associated with the church and something other things but I think the above is your best bet basically “Elon sucks balls” “President Biden can’t speak” doodles.
