For context: during the pandemic years, Alberta was pushing moving there to people in Ontario and BC really hard because of the cheaper real estate market. (It’s really not that much dramatically better now.) A bunch of people took the bait (particularly, in my experience as an Ontarian, conservatives who believe Alberta is some utopia where everything is cheap and “muh freedoms”) and didn’t realize there are no jobs unless you’ve already managed to obtain one before moving. A friend had to move there because his whole family did due to the above scenario and he couldn’t afford to stay in Ontario alone; he ended up unemployed for almost 2 years.
And now their government is constantly doing insane things and I think people are thinking twice about moving there so idk, I have no sympathy for anyone who willingly moved there in the boom and got screwed thinking they’d make money on condo investments

It’s Calgary. It’s a yo-yo market, for rentals, and housing. Booms and busts.
I remember, 2016, looking for a rental, and people near begging me to take one. Begging. As the market was down, 5 years later you couldn’t get one for love, or money. This year, supply increasing, and prices dropping.
They do build, a lot. There is a LOT of densification and infill projects, as well as new *greenfield* communities (at a higher density than older suburbs). The amount of projects really is quite a lot, in comparison to other areas.
Although, I wouldn’t live in the East Village, they never figured it out. As much as it was hyped, it is only mid at best. I’d almost say, better money elsewhere. (Since it is right next to multiple homeless shelters, and a lot of the construction stalled out).
