If this happened in California we would have endless congressional hearings and podcast bro outrage.

I am still surprised that the Country of amber alerts doesn’t have universal cell broadcasting warnings. Or at least with such huge delays.

In Germany we have a federal warningday annually since 2020 to test out the siren systems, the intercoordination and warn messages. It almost always doesn’t work perfectly, but that’s why we have it. A lot of cities also removed their siren systems following the end of the cold War.

The in 2021 we had the Ahrweiler catastrophe, where 135 people died to a flash flood in the Ahr valley, almost exactly like with camp mystic. The similarities are truly frightening and shows clearly that climate change makes these things worse.

In the aftermath a major point of contention was the lack of cell broadcasting warnings. But a delay of 45 minutes… That’s bordering on manslaughter

    Edit:
Here is a good site from the local public broadcaster documenting the flood

Another major point was the lack of flood protection, despite the local authorities having plans for them since the last major flood **in 1910** wich wasnt build in favour of the Nuerburgring

Given that some of these kids were related to wealthy and powerful people, who is going to resign due to this?

I have no idea who ultimately is to blame. At the moment, we’re less than a week from this unspeakable tragedy, and I’m not interested in getting to the finger pointing yet, though a time for that will come.

All I will say is, I do know that MAGA state and local officials haven’t exactly earned any benefit of the doubt in my mind, over the last 10 years. I practically assume that they most likely cut corners and let populist politics take priority over common sense and public safety spending, as another poster said already.
