Jeffrey Epstein ‘said he would not be prosecuted over sex claims because he was friends with Donald Trump’ – from Bradley Edwards… the guy people still quote to defend Trump as “giving evidence” when in reality ‘they were closer social friends than I had been made to understand’

I still see lots of comments using Bradley Edwards quote from 2009 as a defense. Edwards represented 70 victims of Jeffrey Epstein. Asked about Trump, a viral clip that circulated on twitter seemed to be a MAGA wet dream:

Asked about Epstein's relationship with Trump he replied: "The only thing I can say about President Trump is that he is the only person who in 2009, when I served a lot of subpoenas on a lot of people, or at least gave notice to some pretty connected people that I wanted to talk to them, he is the only person who picked up the phone and said 'lets just talk, I'll give you as much time as you want, I'll tell you what you need to know.'

Edwards said Trump: "Was very helpful in the information he gave and gave no indication whatsoever that he was involved in anything untoward whatsoever but had good information that checked out and that helped us and that we didn't have to take a deposition of him."

But the reality is far from exonerating Cheeto Berlusconi.

1.) Trump lied in 2009, he passed of Epstein as a business acquaintance. And this avoided a formal deposition.

2.) 'Over the next few years, I spoke to several witnesses who told us that they had been introduced by Epstein to Trump. Some had seen him at Epstein’s office, others at one of Epstein’s homes, at parties or social events, and even on his plane. In fact, Epstein bragged to certain young women in his life about how he had bailed Trump out of bankruptcy and how he was indebted to him.'

3.) Epstein was happy to use his name when trying to pressure me into dropping the legal action. ‘There is no way they will prosecute me,’ he said. ‘This will go all the way up to the Attorney General. You know Trump was my friend and [Attorney General William] Barr is his boy.’
