I’ll start by saying I think all late night shows are fucking lame, they’re just mental junk food that make people dumber with celebrity puff pieces. But even though I’m not a fan this feels like pretty blatant silencing of criticism.

They claim in was a financial decision but of all the late night shows Colbert’s pulls the highest ratings, higher than Kimmel and Fallon. You’d think that a network would keep a show going if it was continually more successful than its direct competitors. This seems like a pretty blatant quid pro quo to ensure their merger is allowed by the Trump admin, especially when you pair it with that lawsuit settlement when Trump’s lawsuit didn’t have a leg to stand on in the first place. It’s pretty blatantly obvious that caving was just a convenient excuse for bribery.

If this were the other way around and Fox was removing Jessie Watters so their merger was approved by a democrat president the entire right would be calling for blood. Our first amendment is extremely integral to a free nation and the more important ability it grants is the freedom to criticize our leaders. If the media suddenly has to fear for their jobs should they criticize the president that’s an extremely bad thing.

Yeah, this like the nobles giving up William Wallace to appease the English king (in the movie at least…). Not a good look.

It’s also another expected endpoint of Capitalism: dignity/morals/character has a price. CBS should have told Trump to pound sand, got the favourable result in the lawsuit, then let him block the merger and see where things went.

    2. They settled a lawsuit because they blatantly LIED to the american public by maliciously editing an interview question to the democratic candidate for presidency.

In other news, Colbert’s shit show had a really great run after he sold out post colbert report, but the american audience has moved in a different direction and a poorly performing show was cancelled.

That’s it. That’s all that happened.

I think they cancelled him because he accused his boss of bribing Trump with the settlement.

Then he gets fired and tries to say his firing was part of the bribe?

I can’t wait for this guy to fade away into obscurity.

    4. Nope, they lied and that was proven in court, so they lost a court case. The courts don’t do “bribes” this publicly. They had to let him go before he costs them another case.

    5. I mean, trump has been threatening colleges by pulling their funding, so the slope has been slippery for a longggg while dude.

What ? He was canceled because nobody watches him he’s not funny and he’s just an angry extremist lib with TDS and nobody can stand him . Advertisers aren’t paying to be a part of his show anymore that’s basically what it comes down to.

    7. Also magats here saying it wasn’t funny, actually it was great content that only elevated minds could understand.

    8. Who keeps a job after bad-mouthing their employer? CBS has precedence on this, starting with the smash hit, the Smothers Brothers, who bad-mouthed the Vietnam war.

The slippery slope has been around for a long time.
