First off, I don't think it's antisemetic to want to cut funding or aid to Israel, that's not what I'm upset about. I'm simply worried about how many posts I've seen here recently parroting anti-semetic conspiracy theories. To be specific, I've seen a lot of comments about how Israel is a puppet state of the US, or how AIPAC is controlling America or how the Jewish lobby is controlling Western governments.
The reason why a lot of Jews are uncomfortable regarding this sort of rhetoric is it mirrors anti-semetic conspiracy theories about how Zionists are controlling world banks or how Jews control the world secretly. It's not anti-semetic to point out that AIPAC has influence in the US, but it gets a bit worrying when Israel is critizised and countries like Qatar get overlooked for thier influence.
Antisemitism and bigotry in general isn't just about direct discrimination against Jews, it can also be about selective criticism of certain groups while ignoring others. For example, if a white and a black guy are vandalising a storefront and the police arrest the black guy but let the white guy go free, or if the black guy gets a longer sentence that's an obvious example of discrimination.
When people focus so much attention on Israel and thier human rights abuses alleged or otherwise while ignoring those done by other nations, Jews like me can't help but feel a bit afraid. When people ignore the pro-Hamas sentiment at these protests that have swept the world since Oct 7th, protest which call for the destruction of Israel as a nation Jews can't help but feel like this is a repeat of what happened in Nazi Germany leading up to WW2.
